AKISSI

Documentary (’40) I Post-Production

Writer/Director : Léontine Cunin
Producer: Marion Standefer
Associate Producers: Yacine Sanogho, Diane Caba

Synopsis

Stories about migration are often told without the direct voices of the people most affected, particularly women. Return migration is frequently portrayed as a sign of failure, when it can instead represent an opportunity for personal rebuilding and renewal. In Daloa, several women who have returned from migration are currently participating in an entrepreneurship training program to launch their own businesses. Their journeys highlight critical issues including financial independence, women’s leadership, knowledge-sharing, and local community impact. Akissi seeks to document these stories with authenticity and humanity, showcasing inspiring role models, the realities of their experiences, and practical pathways toward reintegration and empowerment.

The children stepped outside the classroom to experience and explore their surroundings firsthand. At the director’s invitation, the young participants did more than observe—they actively recorded sounds, voices, and images, while also allowing themselves to be filmed and recorded. In doing so, they transformed the city into an open-air film set and discovered audiovisual storytelling as a powerful tool for expression, connection, and shared experience.

Synopsis

In the countryside of Morocco, two young friends notice the preparations for a wedding taking place under a large tent. Curious, they begin to secretly watch the celebration from outside, catching glimpses of women dancing. We follow the journey of the two boys as they move away from the wedding and toward their friend’s house, passing through different locations such as the football field, open farmland, the forest, the mosque, rock walls, and the cemetery, where they play with a scorpion. Lost in their conversations and activities, they forget about time. By the moment they reach their friend’s house, the sun is setting. Realizing that it is getting late, they start to run and walk quickly on their way back. When they return, they discover that the wedding party has ended. The guests are leaving, and people are dismantling the tent and packing away the chairs and tables.
